Sri.
Samuel Mohan, Consultant & Expert Advisor (Organic Farming), Jharkhand
said that the Government of Jharkhand has ventured into Organic and
Bio-Dynamic Agriculture. This is a milestone decision of the Government to
preserve ecology from the current abuse of highly toxic Agro-Chemicals. The
Dept. of Agriculture & Cane Development (Horticulture) has selected 3
blocks in Ranchi district namely Ormanjhi, Angara and Khunti covering 100
acres each involving 172 progressive farmers. It is a courageous and
appreciable effort at the part of the government to change the focus and
direction of the existing farming system into a stable and sustainable
process. To facilitate the proper understanding the system at the farmers
grass root level, State Agricultural Management & Extension Training
Institute (SAMETI), Jharkhand in collaboration with Dept. of Agriculture &
Cane Development (Horticulture) and ARARAT WORLDWIDE, Bangalore has organized 2(Two)
training programmes for the development of Organic Farming in the State from
19 -24 June’ 2006. The
above two programme have been organized at SAMETI Conference Hall, Krishi
Bhawan, Sri.
Samuel Mohan, Consultant and Expert Advisor (Organic Farming), Jharkhand, Sri.
Jason J. Jerome, Organic Farming Expert from Kurinji Organic Foods (INDIA)
Pvt. Ltd, Tamil Nadu are the two faculty members of the above programmes.
Under the programme on “Organic Farming Principles and Methods”,
Sri. Jason J. Jerome briefed about the Need for the conversions from Chemical
To Organic Farming, Organic Farming and its recent trends, Soil & Water
Conservation, Mixed Farming, Polyculture system and crop rotation, Green
Manuring, Mulching, Plant Protection Measures, Compost Making with theory and
demonstration, Bio-fertilizer, Vermi-Culture. The programme will also include
field visits and practical demonstrations for preparation of Organic Manures
with their own resources like Dried leaves and weeds, Green leaves, fresh and
old cow dung, Lime powder, rock dust, rock phosphate and wood ash at Manatu
village of Ormanjhi Block on 21st June’ 2005. The

The 2nd training programme is in progress from 22nd
June’ 2006 on the topic Bio-dynamic farming in Agriculture. Under the
programme, Sri. Samuel Mohan and Sri. Jason J. Jerome discussed the latest
development in Bio-dynamic farming in Agriculture. Various subjects like –
Genesis of Biodynamic Agriculture, Introduction & principles of Biodynamic
Agriculture, Bio-dynamic planting calendar –concepts, horn manure, horn
silica, compost herbal preparation, Biodynamic planting calendar, Cow Pat pit
manure –Theory and demonstration, Tree Paste, Liquid manure were discussed
in depth with the participants. This programme also included field visit on 24th
June’ 2006 and practical demonstration on preparation of Horn Manure, Horn
Silica, CPP manure, liquid manure and tree paste. The valedictory session of
the programme will be organized on 24th June’ 2006 at 4 PM at
SAMETI Conference Hall. Sri. V. Jayaram, Director (Agriculture) and I/C

System will be organized from 26-28 June’ 2006 in collaboration with IMO
